One of the best kept secrets on Bribie Island is the magnificent Bribie Island Golf Club which has been named as one of the top 100 courses in the nation. The honour, bestowed by the Australian Golf Digest, is testament to the years of hard work put in by members who volunteered their time to create the original nine holes out of native bushland. From those humble beginnings the course has now grown to be also ranked as the third best club course in Queensland behind Royal Queensland and Brisbane Golf Clubs, largely thanks to to the longest serving staff member Shaun O'Leary, the Course Superintendent. Shaun's hard work over the past 22 years has included overseeing the construction and improvements of the course to leave it in the excellent condition it is today, and it is backed up with a modern clubhouse to produce a magnificent club supported by almost 1,200 members. Off the course, the Clubhouse features the Fairways Bistro which is open for lunch Tuesday to Saturday and BBQ Lunch Sunday, and dinner on Tuesday to Saturday nights. Players are well catered for at the Golf Shop which stocks an extensive range of equipment and accessories and specialises in custom club fitting to ensure you have the best equipment for your needs. Juniors are a big part of the Club. Professional Damian Fittler conducts regular clinics for youngsters interested in taking up the sport. The mens course is a par 72 at 6,162 metres from the blue markers. The Australian Course Rating is 73. The ladies course is a par 74 at 5,538 metres with the Australian Ladies Course Rating of 74. | |
